Photo Opportunity - Winter Migrations

While winter may not be the time we automatically think about for photographing birds, it is actually an excellent time to find species not normally in your area. Most areas in the United States are within a few hours drive of one of the major migration flyways. Birds like Sandhill Cranes, Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds, Prothonotary Warbler, Arctic Tern, and many many others migrate each year. Depending on your region, migrating birds may be in your area anywhere from November through February. To find migrating birds in your area, check with your local Audubon Society or National Wildlife Refuge.
