Cost on Trans Sib, Vladivostok - Irkutsk

Postby jeanm » 26 Mar 2009, 09:14

I've been trying to find out the cost of a berth in a low numbered train (two-berth cabin preferably) to go from Vladivostok to Irkutsk. I can't find a reasonably up to date price. Everything else I find is on a tour of some sort which we really don't want. If no one knows the price of a berth in a two-berth cabin then perhaps someone knows the price per person in a four berth cabin. If we can work out what that segment costs we then can roughly cost out the rest of the trip to St Petersburg.

I guess two-berth might be double the price of four-berth?

Husband and I are approaching 60 years of age so any information that oldies would need to know would be gratefully received too.

Cost on Trans Sib, Vladivostok - Irkutsk

Hello.

This trip would take about 3 days by train.
You can use train "Moscow-Vladivostok" (this train coming thru Irkutsk) and price for "coupe" is about 10.000 Rubles. Schedule is on rzd.ru site

As variant, you could use airlines. For example, flight with "Rossiya" airlines takes 5 hours and cost is about 8.000 Rubles. Have a look on http://www.pulkovo.ru web-site for booking

Hope it could help.

Thanks beholder. The rzd.ru web site was very informative. Is there a reliable and affordable agency you could direct us to buy our tickets from please?

The train is more fun though =) I recently travelled from Moscow to Vladivostok on the train, and was surprised by the amount of Russians who asked "why would you want to do that? are you crazy?"

Jean I would recommend you visit www.waytorussia.net, you can even book your train tickets there. Of course the cheapest way would be to make a Russian friend and get them to book the tickets in Russia. Good luck!
